The most ornate gelato display ever?

This is Slad Ice Cream, on Široka Ulica in Old Town Zadar in Croatia.  There are other gelato stands in Old Town Zadar.  There are other gelato stands on Široka Ulica.  The other gelato stands may be close to having as intricate of a display, but none match this one.

Phot-o' the Day: the Land Gate; Zadar, Croatia

This is the Kopnena Vrata, the Land Gate, the land entrance into the Old Town section of Zadar, Croatia.

It was built in 1543. The decoration, specifically the winged lion top and center, evidences the centuries of Venetian influence over Zadar. Well to the south, beautiful Dubrovnik, then known as the Republic of Ragusa, was able to keep out the Venetians and maintain its independence. Meanwhile, throughout the late Middle Ages and into the Renaissance Era, the Venetians controlled the rest of Croatia's Dalmatian coast. In fact, the Italians continued to hold this little enclave on the Eastern Adriatic coast, which they misnamed Zara, until 1947. Zadar then was finally released from the clutches of Italy, freed from its talons, and attached to the Croatia section of the former Yugoslavia.

Phot-o' the Day: On the Riva, Zadar, Croatia

Three trips to Croatia.  Only one to Zadar.  And, yet, Zadar is probably my favorite place in all of Croatia.  And the Riva in Old Town Zadar, along the sapphire blue Adriatic, just might be the most beautiful spot in all of Croatia. The competition is stiff, but I think it's the winner.  You don't always get puppies to photograph on the promenade, but it's always nice when you do.

Just to the right, outside the shot, would be the wonderful Sea Organ (Morske Orgulje) and the equally wonderful Greeting To The Sun (Pozdrav Suncu).
