As Falls Idaho, So Falls Idaho Falls

Eagle Rock Fountain in a traffic circle on Utah Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho
I have arrived in Idaho Falls. It was a ten and one-half hour drive. And it started a day late. By I am here for the night. It's my first long distance driving vacation in over 10 years.

I stopped in Beaver County, the one in Utah, to fill up the tank en route. The gas station had giant wooden beavers!

I had to get a photo with one.

And now for a picture of a beaver in a sombrero:

We didn't have those in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, growing up. We did have tacos. But only at Hank's. Hank's Frozen Custard. They sold tacos out of the back of the walk-up store.

And speaking of frozen custard, my first stop after completing the ten and one-half hour journey to Idaho Falls:

The awesomeness that is Culver's. I did have some of those Wisconsin cheese curds advertised on the electric sign there as part of my main course before having a sundae with Vanilla custard (the finest of the flavors), raspberries, and marshmallow sauce. As the sombrero-wearing taco-loving Beaver south of the border (the Idaho/Utah border, that is) would say: Delicioso.

You know what else is great about Idaho Falls:

This awesome, huge fountain with two giant eagles (and a mountain lion) in the middle of a traffic circle on the periphery of downtown Idaho Falls. You can see the mountain lion from the other side:

Of course, you can't see it very well because of the position of the sun on the horizon. This is the first coolest thing in Idaho Falls. (The second coolest is the bakery that makes cinnamon rolls that launched the whole Cinnabon thing. Right here in Idaho Falls.) Tomorrow it's off to Yellowstone National Park by way of Grand Teton National Park.

  1. So glad you are enjoying the very well hidden state of Idaho. There will be many amazing sites along the way. If you drive to Driggs and onto Victor, Idaho on route to Teton Pass, do stop at the Victor Emporium for a Huckleberry Shake. Don't worry, it's worth the price. As you're heading East, it is on your right on the main drag. Delicious. You'll have come through my fave town(Driggs). Our property is about 25 minutes from downtown.

Enjoy Jackson. It's in the fire zone now, so be careful. They're evacuating people as we speak. Marvel at the geology of the Teton Range. The Cathedral Group is an incredible picture to take of those mountains as you crawl North toward Yellowstone. Have fun, Bob. I wish I could be an observer of the Bob Spretnak Blog as it's being examined for the first time. Those mountains. That park. Lucky you.

  2. Wish our log cabin had been finished this year as we would have loved to have a certain blogger stay with us. Maybe next time, 'kay, Bob?
